bullying: it's not okay
Bullying is not just a painful part of growing up anymore. It is as serious as it is pervasive. As of 2012, It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students. The numbers continue to rise every month. The CADET's for change define bullying as ANY intentional act of hurting another person, whether it is verbal aggression, physical aggression, or ostracizing. There has been greater awareness of bullying in schools and more people are taking a stand against this problem. The CADETS encourage everyone to join the cause and stop bullying in its tracks or before the wheels even start rolling! We created five easy steps for parents, teachers, victims, AND bullies to follow (let's not forget that bullies are often just as victimized).
1.) Care
2.) Ask questions
3.) Do something
4.) Enforce
5.) Talk
Follow these steps and be a CADET for change today!
After asking 100 students at Mark Keppel High School (random sampling) the poll questions on our home page, we have come up with this data:
1.) Do you feel safe at your school?
50% of students feel safe at school,
30% do not feel safe,
20% of people have no opinion
2.) When was the last time you bullied someone?
27% of students have bullied someone in the past week
12% of students have bullied someone in the past month
41% of students have bullied someone in the past year
20% of students do do not remember of never have been bullied
3.) When was the last time you have been bullied?
31% of students have been bullied someone in the past week
10% in the past month
53% in the past year
6% have never been bullied/do not remember
